Breaking Down the Spain-England Odds
Spain are the narrow moneyline favorites here, which I simply do not agree with. In their last thirteen meetings, England are 7-4-2 against Spain, going 3-1-1 over their last five. Furthermore, it cannot be said enough that the Lionesses have been here before. They have almost reached the World Cup Final twice, and they did see victory in the Women’s Euros, which is an equally difficult tournament. With almost every cup in football, across all competitions, you cannot just ascend the mountain on one go. You have to fail first and it feels like this is Spain’s moment to fail, especially with the youngest squad since and Norway in 1995.
Plus, England are getting Lauren James back, which feels like an added bonus to their squad having already won two games without her. Nonetheless, England’s odds to win in regular time sit at +185, while their odds to lift the cup sit at -110. Keep in mind that three of the last six Women’s World Cup Finals did use extra time or penalties to decide a winner.
Spain-England Picks & Prediction: The Over/Under
On the goal front, this match is expected to stay tame which is probably large in part to England’s defense. While they have conceded in two straight, they have only let in three goals across the entire tournament, on an xGA of 5.2. As I said before, I favor England and will take a ride on them to lift the cup at -110, which is a great price for a team that is still unbeaten. On top of that, I will also take England to score over 1.5 team goals, which offers a crazy price of +210. They have scored two goals in three of their last four matches and will be reenergized by James ing the starting eleven.
