The Washington Nationals will visit the Chicago White Sox tonight. Washington will start RHP Trevor Williams (3.01 xERA) tonight, and the 32-year-old pitcher is off to an impressive start. Unlike Williams, RHP Chris Flexen (4.41 xERA) is not. The White Sox are 2-6 in Flexen’s starts. Thier lone wins came against the Tampa Bay Rays.
Although Chicago is on a 6-4 tear, they’re still only 12-29, and I’m fading them against Washington tonight. The Nationals aren’t great, but they’re 19-20 this season and are 5-5 over the last 10. Importantly, Washington’s .316 xwOBA ranks 17th while Chicago’s .296 ranks 29th. They’re also only -135 (57.5%) at DraftKings on the moneyline.
I consider four factors when using DraftKings’ MLB Early Win promo: (1) avoid heavy favorites, (2) target road teams, (3) back lineups with strong early bats and (4) avoid shaky starting pitchers.
At -135, Washington isn’t a heavy favorite. They’re also on the road. Their leadoff bats are all doing well — C.J. Abrams (.385 xwOBA), Luis Garcia Jr. (.352) and Jesse Winker (.342) are all in the 70th percentile or better. Finally, Williams has been good enough to start the season — let’s just hope he keeps it up.
